Dave Ketchum
Drums
Dave Ketchum is best known as the powerhouse drummer and founding member of Canadian hard rock band Coney Hatch. With his precise timing, explosive energy, and unmistakable groove, Ketchum laid the rhythmic foundation that helped define the band’s signature sound—a mix of raw power and melodic hooks that fueled their rise through the 1980s rock scene.
A Toronto native, Ketchum’s passion for drums ignited early, drawing inspiration from legends like John Bonham, Keith Moon, and Ian Paice. His dynamic playing quickly became a cornerstone of Coney Hatch’s identity, anchoring classic tracks such as Devil’s Deck, Hey Operator, and Monkey Bars with both finesse and force.
As Coney Hatch toured North America and Europe alongside heavyweights like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Ted Nugent, Ketchum earned a reputation as one of Canada’s most rock-solid and entertaining drummers. His relentless drive on stage—equal parts precision and personality—made him a fan favourite and an integral part of the band’s chemistry.
Beyond the road, Ketchum’s commitment to the craft has remained unwavering. Whether in the studio or on stage, his approach to drumming balances technical excellence with an instinctive feel for what makes a song come alive. Decades on, his playing continues to embody the spirit of classic rock: loud, honest, and full of heart.
